Rehla Design collaborated with Graphite Studio, Nextevo™, PYPR and Tarkus Interiors to develop an interactive exhibition titled ‘Fashion Waste Illustrated’. This exhibition was held at Raffles City Shopping Mall, as part of Singapore Design Week 2023, which ran between 21 September to 01 October, 2023.
The exhibition featured data visualisation using recycled clothes to illustrate the increase in textile consumption in Singapore. T-shirts were hung on bamboo poles, each representing a year of Singapore’s textile/leather waste statistics. Looking across the rows, one could perceive the massive growth of Singapore textile waste over the last 20 years.
In this exhibition, we questioned how we can extend the lifespan of our textiles by rewearing, recycling or swapping clothes. We introduce the public to sustainable textiles and provide insightful facts. A glossary showcases various natural, regenerated, recycled and organic fibers and products.
Lastly, we invite visitors to snap a photo with our interactive hats made by textile artists using eco-friendly fibre.
